ORPHANS' PROTECTION
EDUCATION & SCHOLARSHIPS
As many orphans lose their parents they lose everything, and they cannot afford school fees which are around 200 USD per year. In communities where people live on around one or two dollars a day , paying a scholarship is very difficult. When we receive visitors, we introduce them to the communities. You can give voluntary classes to the kids or give a sponsor to a child or more children to help them in their career. Material and financial help is truly appreciated. We want to develop international solidarity. Your first step might be to visit us, meet the children and create link between our worlds.
COMMUNITY GARDEN
We strive to help the orphans as much as we can on our eco-village. The first support we can bring them is to provide them with food. Our gardens can sustain around 15 persons now but are taking care of more than 80 orphans and therefore we need to extend our gardens’ capacity. We are thinking about a collective garden where volunteers from the communities and visitors from all over the world could come to work for the communities in general and more particularly for the orphans. That is currently what we are doing informally but we would love to build a dedicated garden just for the orphans. You can help us by providing us with seeds, materials, volunteering or donations.
PROJECTS
HOUSES and KITCHEN
To provide accommodation for orphans in need we are building new eco-cottages in our village. We have currently built two dormitories and we are working on building a kitchen for them. We have already welcomed four orphans in our community in our own houses, but we ambition to host more and more of them. This is possible through your kind donations for building material, food and any other equipment. You can participate to this project by visiting us, volunteering, donating or even getting involved as a member of our organization.
CRAFT WORK
Craft work can be one of the sources of revenue for the community members and it is a traditional activity that we want to promote. Craft classes are given by women of the community and children can learn it for themselves and eventually for selling. If you read more about us, you will find out how selling craft baskets helped to start the whole project… You can help us by visiting us and take a class of craft work by yourself, order some craft work, volunteer with us or donate for the project.
SWIMMING
Swimming classes are extremely important for orphans’ basic survival. Several people drown in the lake every year. Indeed, they must take boats and canoes to go to school or other activities, but they do not know how to swim… Therefore, providing them with swimming skills is a very important service we can give them for their safety in the lake’s environment. Usually the lessons are provided by volunteers and supported by the school teachers. There are only three school teachers in the communities of the lake and the help of volunteers is always very much appreciated to complete the training of all kids and especially for the orphans.
In the communities of the lake Bunyonyi, many children are orphans. Due to very hard life conditions, people can have many health problems, especially the HIV virus is decimating the population, but also malnutrition, extreme work conditions and poverty are causing early deaths. Children are often left alone without land, relatives and possibilities to survive by themselves. Our organization currently takes care of 82 orphans from the close communities (January 2018). We mostly contribute to provide them with food, education, special classes, and most importantly with attention, appreciation and LOVE!
